Matt Vogl | Mental Health Technologist

Matt Vogl is the Executive Director and founder of the National Mental Health Innovation Center (NMHIC) at the University of Colorado’s Anschutz Medical Campus, where he leads a team to better treat and prevent mental illness. Previously, Matt was the Deputy Director of the University of Colorado Depression Center. He earned a BA from Marquette University and a Masters of Public Health from the University of Minnesota. Matt was a standup comic for 12 years and is a diehard St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. He has two sons with his amazing wife.



Adam Grant “Surprising Habits of Original Thinkers” Over and over again I felt like he was talking directly to me (not in a psychotic way!). It described me so well in parts I really felt validated and understood.

What sparks your curiosity?

Unusual thinking. Someone who gives the finger to the status quo. Extreme creativity.

What was the biggest change or turning point in your life, and why? Tell us a story!

Sixteen years ago I made a suicide attempt as the result of untreated bipolar disorder. My life was saved when a neighbor intervened. After getting on the path to being healthy and living with bipolar, I committed my career to improving our mental health system any way I could.

Well, I am an avid photographer and kayaker. I am crazy for St. Louis Cardinals baseball. I was a stand-up comic for about 12 years 🙂
