That's What She Said: Deconstructing the Gender Credibility Gap through Story

Join TEDxMileHigh Speaker Jamie Newton to explore how we can center stories that are often dismissed and create strong allies through storytelling.

Sexism comes in infinite gradations and variations. How do we, as people of all genders, either perpetuate or prevent sexism? Allyship is messy, vulnerable work, but men can be meaningful allies in gender equity efforts. Join us for a live That’s What She Said where men will cold read stories submitted by women about their experiences of being women and an interactive conversation diving into how we may create equity in how we relate to people across the gender spectrum.

Jamie Newton founded “That’s What She Said,” a storytelling event in Denver where women submit stories & men are invited to read them aloud, for the first time, on stage in front of a live audience. TWSS highlights the nuances of gender-based discrimination and what it means to be an ally in women’s rights movements. Jamie is the Women & Gender Center Coordinator at the University of Colorado, Denver. She has two dogs, Stevie Lix and Grimké, named after early advocates of abolition and women’s rights. In 2019, she will receive her Masters in Social Science.
